Semi-Permanent Eyebrow Expert Derby
What is microblading?
Microblading is a type of eyebrow architecture. It is all about creating the best shape for each face – a totally bespoke approach for each client.
The process is very precise thanks to the tool that is used which is effectively like a pen with the nib being a sloped blade with 10-12 little needles at the end – needles that don’t penetrate the skin but just delicately scratch the surface, much like a paper cut.
The needle very finely implants featherweight strokes with a medical grade pigment on the epidermis layer for the skin, creating fine, realistic and natural hair strokes.
What happens when you get your brows microbladed?
- I shape the brow area by removing the unwanted hairs, cleaning up the area and preparing it for the treatment.
- I will then measure up your brows with black thread to create a perfect outline, considering face shape, symmetry, facial features, etc.
- We will then discuss what colour best suits your skin type and aesthetic goals.
- Numbing cream is applied.
- Then I begin the needling process – gently implanting the pigment via featherweight strokes. Each stroke is a superficial line in the skin where the colour pigment seeps in and settles then. If there is any discomfort at this stage, we add another quick layer of numbing cream to the area which will become effective after 5 minutes.
- I add on a final layer of pigment that stays on for 5 mins, clean the area and VOILA! – beautiful brows!
- In 6-8 weeks there’s a top-up session to fill in any gaps where the pigment hasn’t taken or healed properly.
Why is there a top up session and when does this happen?
The top up session happens after 6-8 weeks. This is the time where I can assess the first steps, and add in any further strokes and add a darker pigment if preferred.
What happens in the mean time?
You’ll need to follow the after care instructions (see below) and avoid any picking or scratching. Your eyebrows will start to heal over, much like a tattoo, which might cause irritation but is totally normal.
In the next ten days or so your eyebrows will change colour, might become flaky and look like they’ve faded but this is totally normal. They’ll reveal their final colour and shape after around 30 days. This can then be topped up at the second session.

How Is The Microblading Procedure Done?
Each appointment begins with a discussion of the client’s desired look and needs before sketching out and measuring the placement of the eyebrows.
The process of measuring brow placement starts by determining the centre of the face and the set of the eyes. Start point, arch, and ending are worked out by whether the eyes are normal, close, or wide set.
Sketches of the full brow, with the appropriate thickness and arch height, are produced to give the client a general idea of what the finished brows will resemble and set the outline for the microblading procedure.
How Long Does Microblading Last?
It varies as each individual is different. The main factors are depending on skin type and whether the aftercare advice is followed religiously. However, the pigment will generally fade slowly over 12 months.
Is Microblading Painful?
The treatment can be a little uncomfortable for those who are more sensitive. However, I will ensure you are as comfortable as possible.
Throughout the microblading treatment there will be two numbing creams applied to the eyebrow area. One cream will be applied to unbroken skin and another will then be applied to broken skin after the outline of the brows have been filled. Over all the pain is tolerable throughout the treatment.
How Does Microblading Work?
Your chosen pigment (colour) is applied with a specifically chosen hand tool (tailored to your skin type) which has a certain amount of fine needles to create marks in the skin. The chosen pigment is then bladed into the skin just below the dermis achieving in a very natural look.
All strokes will be in the same direction as your natural hair growth. A ‘touch up’ will be required 4-6 weeks after initial treatment.
